Pierre Green and Gold
Sometimes called Goldenstar or Golden-knee, as well as Green and Gold, Chrysogonum virginianum is an easy to grow, mat-forming groundcover that is highly adaptable and low-maintenance. Its native range extends through Eastern North America, from Pennsylvania to Florida and west to Louisiana.
Green and Gold will form carpets of bright green in sun or shade, thriving in dappled part sun. It will perform in full sun if kept moist, and in deep shade, too, though it may flower less in the shadiest areas.
In all but its coldest growing zones where it may drop leaves in winter, Green and Gold is evergreen. This makes it a good fit for making it perfect for growing as living mulch below taller plants, edging pathways, or for growing under trees and shrubs.
